We’ve all been there: staring at a chewed-up shoe, a neighbor’s fence being barked at incessantly, or a dog that won’t come when called, feeling a mix of frustration and—if we’re being honest—a little bit of defeat.
I started The Dog DECODED because I realized that most pet owners aren’t struggling with “bad dogs.” They are struggling with a language barrier. We love our dogs like family, but we often forget they aren’t small humans in fur coats. They have a rich, complex way of communicating, and when we miss those signals, things go sideways.
The “AHA!” Moment
My passion for this work didn’t start in a classroom; it started in the living room. I saw too many well-meaning owners overwhelmed by conflicting advice. One person says “be the alpha,” another says “ignore the behavior,” and meanwhile, the dog is more confused than ever. There are public training persona’s that use dog packs for training or little noises designed to intimidate and correct behavior.
I watched a friend almost give up on a rescue dog because they thought he was “aggressive.” In reality, the dog was terrified and screaming for space through every subtle body signal he had—signals that were being completely misread. Once we decoded what he was actually saying, the transformation was like watching a lightbulb flip on. That moment of connection—that sigh of relief from both the human and the dog—is what I live for.
More Thank Just “Sit” and “Stay”
At The Dog Decoded, the philosophy is simple: Relationship over Dictatorship. While teaching a dog to sit is useful, teaching a human to understand why their dog is pacing at 7:00 PM is life-changing. I wanted to create a space that moves away from outdated, fear-based tactics and moves toward empathy and science-backed understanding. And no, being the “Alpha Dog” isn’t science backed. We aren’t dogs. In fact, we are a natural predator to canines. Ask any Zookeeper and they’ll tell you, they don’t work with some of the biggest, fiercest animals on the planet by becoming the leader of their “pack”, or “herd” or whatever group. They use trust, training, animal understanding, and respect.
When you understand the “why” behind the bark, the “how” of the training becomes second nature. We aren’t just training dogs; we’re building advocates. I wanted to give people the tools to look at their pets and say, “I hear you, and I know what you need.”
Our Mission Moving Forward
The Dog Decoded was born out of a desire to keep dogs in happy homes and out of shelters. Many behavioral issues that lead to surrenders are entirely preventable with the right “translation.”
I’m here to be that translator. Whether you’re navigating the chaotic puppy months, managing a reactive senior dog, or just wanting to deepen the bond you already have, I want this to be your home base.
Let’s Start the Conversation
I am so incredibly grateful to have you here. This journey is about more than just “fixing” problems; it’s about celebrating the incredible, ancient bond we share with dogs by finally giving them the voice they deserve.
Your dog is already talking to you. Are you ready to listen?
